feeling like a mouse // looking like an elephant.
mouse-elelphant.maxpat |
This assignment was to make a MaxMSP patch from scratch, and use it to compose or perform a unique composition. I had the idea of a delay patch that affected a video source since the start of semester, and that idea has gone through many different iterations, but it finally landed on this patch and graphic score combo feeling like a mouse // looking like an elephant. There was a couple things that I didn't know how to do, like separate the audio flow from the reverb, so the reverb can be de-activated without the audio leaving as well, but I think it's little quirks, forcing me to have at least some reverb throguhout the entire thing, was fun and interesting to play with. The graphic score was just drawn without a plan, just vibes. The song, meaning-wise, is about being trans and not physically feeling like who I want to feel like, and thus the colour scheme.
wobble trouble.
This assignment was essentially "play with someone's maxpatch and improvise, and problem solve as problems imminently come up". After a bit of searching on the internet, I stumbled upon Dave Bessel's website, with four public domain patchers. After some deliberation, I went with Wobbleiser, a sci-fi sound generator, due to the many different variables I could change. I think the final result was really good, and I'm pretty proud of the performance. Definitely recommend Dave Bessel's other patchers and other work, I had a skim around and it was really interesting.
